    Bill Summary

    This bill redefines who is considered a "law enforcement officer" for purposes of application of the present law benefit that provides a $25,000 payment to the estate of any sheriff, sheriff's deputy, or any police officer employed by a municipality or political subdivision of the state of Tennessee whose primary responsibility is the prevention and detection of crime and the apprehension of offenders who is killed in the line of duty.

    This bill extends the benefit for the estates of law enforcement officers who are killed in the line of duty to police officers who are employed by the state.
