    Bill Summary

Present law authorizes the state board of education to provide for a program of instruction on cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) techniques commensurate with the learning expectations within the lifetime wellness curriculum for public junior or senior high schools. Present law states that it is not the intention of the law to require full certification in CPR, but that it is the intention to authorize instruction in the techniques and skills associated with performing CPR.

This bill revises the above provision with regard to what the law intends for the instruction to specify the intent that the students learn the techniques and practice the psychomotor skills associated with performing CPR.

ON FEBRUARY 13, 2012, THE HOUSE SUBSTITUTED SENATE BILL 1680 FOR HOUSE BILL 1519, ADOPTED AMENDMENT #1 AND PASSED SENATE BILL 1680, AS AMENDED.

AMENDMENT #1 names the bill the Carmen Burnette Act of 2012.
