Highway Signs - As enacted, extends, from 180 days to 12 months, the time in which a person granted a permit authorizing a digital billboard has to erect and begin displaying an advertising message before revocation of the permit; allows an extension period of an additional 12 months if the permit holder applies to the commissioner of transportation and pays an additional permit fee of $200 prior to the expiration of the original 12-month period. - Amends TCA Title 54, Chapter 21.

    ON MARCH 7, 2016, THE HOUSE ADOPTED AMENDMENT #1 AND PASSED HOUSE BILL 1789, AS AMENDED.

    AMENDMENT #1 rewrites this bill and extends, from 180 days to 12 months, the time in which a person granted a permit authorizing a digital billboard has to erect and begin displaying an advertising message before revocation of the permit. This amendment allows an extension period of an additional 12 months if the permit holder applies to the commissioner of transportation and pays an additional permit fee of $200 prior to the expiration of the original 12-month period. The additional $200 fee will be separate from any annual permit renewal fee.
